A Review of the Timecrack Adventures

The books in the sci-fi/fantasy series, The Timecrack Adventures, explore  thrilling new worlds when two young brothers, Archie and Richard Kinross, leave Old Earth for New Earth in the next dimension. Their search for  parents, Malcolm and Lucy, who disappeared from an archaeological site in the Yucatan jungle, take them on unexpected time-travel journeys, to face very dangerous enemies.

Timecrack. I worked with William Long, a talented and entertaining author in Northern Ireland, when he released his first pseudo-fantasy, sci-fi thriller, Timecrack. Today, we’re going to be taking a look at the latest stories in the series.

At this point we’re already familiar with the Kinross family. And sure enough, the author does his part to reintroduce returning readers to welcome new ones. Both Copanatec  and Varakite are presented with an adventurous thriller flair. The characters we return to have become as big as the stories they’re part of. It helps that Long paints them in with cinematic prose and an excellent, engrossing plot.

Copanatec. Here we see the two young brothers, Archie and Richard Kinross, return to New Earth in the next dimension, in the continuing search for their parents who disappeared from an archaeological site in the Yucatan jungle.

The island of Copanatec is home to The Lords of the Cloud, an ancient civilisation, who in their desperation to find a lost, life-giving treasure, have recruited Talon the Slave Master and the brutal Terogs to find it in the tunnels below the pyramid, before it is too late.

Archie and his friend, Kristin, along with the villagers from the mainland of Amasia, are taken by the slave traders and forced to work in the tunnels below the pyramid to find the treasure.

Richard, back on Old Earth, discovers Archie is missing, and along with Chuck Winters, a security specialist, they set out on a time travel journey to the next dimension to find him.

The adventure, with its mix of ancient cultures and time travel to new worlds in other dimensions, will appeal to young adults and older readers, alike.

Long hits the ground running with this second entry in his sci-fi/fantasy series, and shows that lightning can strike the same place twice. With the gripping, memorable, and sometimes funny story presented here, the author would have you convinced he’s made dozens of these books already. This is a series that is addictively enjoyable, and once you’re done with Timecrack, you’ll  want to pick up the other books and resume your time with the Kinross family, and enjoy the next adventure.

Varakite. Long continues with the third adventure in the sci-fi/fantasy series. The characters, including the Varakite monster, have become as big as the adventures they are part of. The setting is the Great Famine, which by 1849 has devastated Ireland and its people. Starving, evicted from their cottages with nowhere to go, except the roadside ditches and the workhouse, where many will die from starvation and disease.

It’s another time travel journey that sees Archie, Richard and Kristin join the rebel Ribbonmen in their conflict with Lord Castleforde, cursed as a Varakite. He is the landlord guilty of the cruel evictions and the kidnapping of Kristin.

Magnificent in its conception, this is a must read for followers of the series.

William Long’s Copanatec is a good old-fashioned science fiction romp in the true spirit of the father of the genre, H.G. Wells. The escapades through the wormholes of time and space will have you gripped right to the last with its fantastical vistas of new exotic worlds and ancient civilizations.

Timecrack is rollercoaster sci-fi/fantasy adventure that flings the reader headlong into other worlds that are unnerving because they blend the fantastic with the familiar. You catch yourself thinking that somewhere in our past or our future this could really be happening. A novel that awakens the young-adventurer in all of us.
